Growing for the Future

Healthy eating groupGrowing For the Future (G4F) based at Thorne’s Park Nursery in Wakefield is a flagship project created through partnership between Groundwork Wakefield and NHS Wakefield District as part of the Change for Life campaign. Change for Life is a nationwide movement that is designed to help people make changes to their lifestyles so that they can eat well move more and live longer.

The aim of G4F is to generate economic, social and environmental benefits based on the production of local plants and healthy food. Activity at the Thornes Park Nursery site is designed to deliver the following objectives:

  • To provide learning, training and employment opportunities to address worklessness across the Wakefield district
  • To provide valuable learning, training and work experiences for people with learning difficulties and mental health problems
  • To provide learning and training opportunities for young people at risk of becoming NEET
  • To support the development of a more sustainable local food economy
  • To promote healthy lifestyles and provide associated training and practical opportunities for local people to grow their own produce
  • To operate the site through a sustainable social enterprise model.
