Project Pugwash

Project Pugwash (Wakefield and District) began in March 2009.

Volunteers have been involved with fruit tree planting, bulb planting, general clean up, pruning trees and bushes, painting the lock gates and fences, canal water clearance using the workboats, land clearance and catering. A canal boat is present with kitchen and toilet facilities. The idea is that it will be an enjoyable experience, not just about hard work – space and time to socialise as a group and take a break on the boat.

Lunch and refreshments are provided. Volunteers came down for a half day, whole day or even just a couple of hours or so, to work around your commitments. BTCV and British Waterways staff are available to support the volunteers on the site.

NHS Wakefield District is the lead organisation and is supported by Safe Anchor Trust and British Waterways. The project offers an exciting programmes or water and land based activities for people of all ages and abilities from across the district.

Project Pugwash also takes part in the CSV Make a Difference Day.
