Our programme of activity includes physical improvements within neighbourhoods and open spaces, the creation of jobs, and the development of activities and projects which successfully engage people – whether in schools, local neighbourhoods or the business community.

Our local programmes and services are tailored to the needs of partners and communities in that locality. When all that local activity is added together, it becomes a major national force for change. We routinely monitor our performance through our Project Performance Measures (project outputs) which are reported to the Department for Communities & Local Government.

As an indication of the kind of work we do, in 2010/2011 alone, Groundwork South Yorkshire completed over 370 individual projects with the following outcomes:

In 2010-11 we:

  • Worked with 272 schools
  • Engaged 12,316 young people
  • Involved 21,824 adults
  • Improved 637,641m² of land
  • Maintained 732,850m² of land
  • Supported 683 businesses
  • Created 274 jobs
  • Gained 1,853 formal qualifications
  • Diverted 175,639 tonnes of waste from landfill
  • Saved 90,614 tonnes of CO2 emissions
