The Blue Loop Goes Digital

Blue Loop logo ...

We’ve just recruited a brand new Blue Loop River Steward, who’ll be responsible for designing and managing a programme of watery themed events to attract local community members. Hellen Hornby will bring a wealth of experience with her, much of which has been gained working as Principal Education Officer at Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust for the last eight years.

The Blue Loop is a continuous loop of waterways and riverside walkways in Sheffield made up of the River Don (from the city centre to Meadowhall) and the Tinsley Canal (back from Meadowhall to Victoria Quays). It flows close by the communities of Burngreave, Attercliffe, Darnall and Tinsley.

We’ve been working with local digital design company Design101, who’ve created a fantastic new website for us, as well as an eye-catching logo and fold out map.

The website is designed to encourage interaction from Blue Loop users, and features a photo gallery, activities for kids, a wildlife sightings section, and a series of downloadable short walks for families. It will also provide information on the wealth of wildlife the Blue Loop is home to, showing people what a hidden gem they have in the heart of the city!

Many of the ideas for the project came from local people who were involved in the consultation. We’re keeping them informed as the project develops to ensure that we’re meeting the needs of their community.

Hellen is available attend local schools, groups and events to run activities and talk about the project. She can also arrange guided walks and activities out and about on the Blue Loop. If you’d like to find out more about the sort of thing Hellen can deliver, give her a call on 07766 352 932.
