Green Doctor preparing for energy saving action
Groundwork Trusts in Dearne Valley and Sheffield are recruiting for new employees to work as Green Doctors across the sub-region. Once fully trained, the Green Doctors will make free visits to priority households to cut fuel bills - addressing fuel poverty and climate change, using a combination of practical measures and advice.
On a typical house call, the Green Doctor will conduct an energy survey, and offer advice on how to save on fuel and water bills. Appropriate energy saving measures will be installed, such as draught excluders, radiator panels and PC Power Down devices. The Green Doctor will also signpost homeowners to other services and grants available from local and national sources to combat fuel poverty. Householders are not charged for the visit, or for any of the capital costs of the energy saving measures installed, and the advice given is entirely impartial.
Originally devised in 2003 as an innovative local programme by Groundwork Leicester & Leicestershire, Green Doctor has now grown into a trademarked product being delivered by Groundwork across the country.
Groundwork Sheffield and Dearne Valley are working in partnership with the South Yorkshire Energy Centre, East End Quality of Life Initiative, NHS Sheffield and housing associations in South Yorkshire.
