Children Planting on Eastfield
An ambitious vision for the future of Eastfield will be officially launched on 2 August with a celebratory event at Eastfield library. The event encapsulates what the new vision is about – celebrating the exciting community projects that are happening in Eastfield and working with local residents and partner organisations to plan for even bigger and better improvements in the future.
The “New Eastfield Action Plan 2012-24” is the document that sets out this vision and a wide-ranging programme of activities, projects and investment to achieve it. The plan has been developed over the last 18 months by a partnership of local people and public and private sector organisations delivering services in the area. It aims to address many of the recognised issues in this neighbourhood, sustain the momentum of positive change that has been developing for several years, and create opportunities for local people from the development at Middle Deepdale.
The event will commence at 3.00pm with the official launch of the plan. Local community groups and organisations will have displays and examples of their work on show until 7.00pm for residents to drop in at any time and find out more about the plan and the people and organisations committed to making things happen. Examples of what will be available include Eastfield Children’s Centre, Dell-ve into Nature mini-beasts, Jobmatch skills, training and employment advice, Shaw Trust supporting families programme, North Yorkshire County Council Health and Adult Services with information on extra care housing and telecare, Incredible Edible, Community Centre DIY, Yorkshire Coast Homes community work, and Sanctuary and K2 Regeneration (including Kebbell Homes and Keepmoat) with information on the new homes soon to be available and the local education, training and employment opportunities to be provided. Refreshments will be provided by the newly opened Poppy’s café.
Brian Simpson, Chair of Eastfield Parish Council and Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Renewal, Community Involvement and Partnerships with the Borough Council, said “The launch of this plan marks and important milestone in the history of Eastfield. The aspirations and ideas contained within it, combined with the enthusiasm and commitment of our local residents and partner organisations, mean the future looks very bright and holds a wealth of possibilities for us all. Work on implementing the plan and the wishes expressed by residents in last year’s consultation has already begun with some goals already achieved. The plan acts as a blueprint for Eastfield’s future and together we can build a neighbourhood which we can continue to be proud of for ourselves and future generations.”
