Green for Go, a volunteering programme for disabled and non-disabled young people alike, have the green light for success after winning at the vinvolved volunteering awards party in Leeds city centre on Wednesday 10 March. Green for Go, jointly run by us and People Matters (Leeds), won the ‘transform’ award.

The awards, attended by over 100 local young volunteers, were arranged to celebrate the work of young volunteers (16-25 years old) across the city. The transform award is specifically for the group who have continually worked to make a difference and transform a community for the better and was awarded to Green for Go in recognition of their environmental activities which benefit the wider community.

Tasks undertaken across the past year include the development of an allotment (from sowing seeds to arranging a BBQ to sample their goods), planting bulbs and making bird boxes for Kirkstall Valley nature reserve and organising a recycled fashion show.

Ellie Branch-Evans, Environmental Youth Worker here, says:

“We’re absolutely thrilled to have won the transform award at the vinvolved Leeds awards party. It’s really fantastic recognition for the group who have worked so hard in their local community and for the benefit of the environment. We’re really proud of our Green for Go-ers whose enthusiasm and dedication over the past year has helped to win them this great award!”
