Members of the Little Horton community in Bradford were joined by staff from Marks & Spencer to put the finishing touches to the new Park Lane Centre Civic Space, prior to its official opening on 22nd February.

The project is part of the Marks & Spencer Greener Living Spaces programme, and attracted additional funding from the Big Lottery Community Spaces programme. The project has been managed by Groundwork and undertaken in partnership with the Park Lane Neighbourhood Association and Bradford Trident, with members of the local community closely involved from the outset.

The space has seen a variety of improvements including decorative steel fencing, featuring designs created by the local community; new paving, with in-set mosaics also designed by the local community; new raised planting areas, and new uplighters, allowing use of the space after dark. It is hoped that the new facility will help bring the community together for a variety of activities and events, as well as providing more attractive surroundings for regular users of the community centre, and nearby church and school.

Local M&S store manager David Tredwen said:

"It is great to see that the money M&S are raising for Groundwork is being used to such good effect. This new space provides a great environment for the local people and I hope that it will be used to bring the community together. M&S are proud to able to work with Groundwork on these sorts of projects and we look forward to supporting more work in the local community in the years to come."
