Happy bulb planters at Lewisham Park
Residents of Morley gathered together in Lewisham Park yesterday to plant bulbs as part of a wider aim to make the space a more attractive area. Pupils from Seven Hills Primary School, along with residents from Knowle Manor Care Home and workers from local building maintenance company Forrest were among the people keen to make a difference in their community. Daffodil bulbs were planted to make the park a more colorful place next Spring, and memorial gardens dedicated to young people who lived locally were cleared of weeds.
Organiser Louise Bentley said “We want to bring some colour to the area as it currently looks quite dull. Lewisham Park has a lack of funding and we want to show that people care about the space and would like to see it improved.” Such improvements are hoped to make the park become an ideal place for children to play and resolve the litter problem.
School children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to get their hands dirty. James, aged 8, said “I don’t get to do this very often. I love digging holes and squashing the ground.”
Residents are encouraged to get involved and help form a ‘Friends of Lewisham Park’ group to enable more improvements to take place in the future. If you would like more information please contact Nickie Ramsden on 0113 238 0601 / nicola.ramsden@groundwork.org.uk
