A proud entrant of the Firthcliffe Garden Competition 2011
Residents of the Firthcliffe estate in Liversedge, Kirklees, have been celebrating their gardening endeavours at the first Firthcliffe Garden Competition!
The competition has given residents the opportunity to enhance their local surroundings and individual gardens in a bid to be awarded Best Garden, Best Hanging Baskets & Pots, or to be crowned Overall Winner.
Fifteen people entered and were judged on originality, variety and colour, standard of surroundings, and overall impact. Judges also looked out for ways in which people were attracting wildlife to their gardens, and any environmental considerations made.
This was a truly intergenerational competition with ages ranging from 5 to over 60. The youngest entrant received a special prize for the fabulous sunflower that he'd cared for and nurtured over the summer months.
The garden competition marks the end of a wider project funded by the Big Lottery Fund's Community Spaces programme to develop the local area's greenspace. The project was run in partnership by Places for People and Groundwork.
